5 Things You Need For Your 1st Pilates Class
What Is Pilates?
Pilates is a low-impact workout that can be performed by people of all ages and fitness levels. A pilates workout primarily focuses on the body’s core, with the goal of improving strength, mobility, flexibility, balance, and posture.
Pilates isn’t about heavy weight lifting and increasing muscle mass, but rather it’s a mind-to-muscle connection that allows us to become in tune with our body and surroundings. With steady flows of movement, breathwork, and lots of concentration, pilates will increase muscle tone and improve the body’s overall alignment and balance.
Are you interested in trying Pilates?! If so, here are 5 things you need for your 1st pilates class:
1. Towel & Grip Socks
During an intense workout, you’re bound to sweat, so bringing a towel is a good idea! Having sweat drip into your eyes, mouth, and onto your mat/equipment can become irritating, so having a towel on hand can be super beneficial!
Grip socks are not mandatory, but they can be extremely helpful in a workout. And no, we are not talking about cozy Christmas socks with grips on the bottom! Grip socks fit and appear like normal socks, but they just have grips on the bottom on them. Grip socks prevent slipping and protect your feet. They help you stay grounded with each movement, thus decreasing your chances of a slippery mess!
2. Water Bottle
Hydration is key when it comes to any form of exercise! Staying hydrated is important as it lubricates your joints and regulates body temperature. The goal is to avoid dehydration. Sings of dehydration include dizziness, muscle cramps, and other serious issues. To keep hydration at bay, we encourage drinking water before, during, and after your pilates class!
There is nothing worse than cramping up during a workout session, so stay hydrated!

3. Ankle & Wrist Weights
Ankle/Wrist weights are a commonly used training equipment used as a way to improve fitness during day-to-day activities. Typically weights range from 1-3 pounds and can be worn on ankles for a leg workout or wrist for an arm workout.
Incorporate these weights into your Pilates workout for added intensity and strength training!
4. Confidence
Confidence is the willingness to show up. To be exactly who you are unapologetically. Yes, trying something new can be extremely intimidating, but you never know unless you try!
We are all people trying to explore and grow along this beautiful journey of life, so walk into your first Pilates class with confidence and the willingness to try something new!
5. Matching Workout Set
Let’s be honest, a cute workout set makes working out so much better! Strut into your pilates class with your fabulous new set!
Hopefully these 5 items can well prepare you for your 1st Pilates experience! Pilates is a great way to align with your body and nourish the mind and soul. Just remember, at some point, everyone at the studio was in the same place as you - just starting out!
